Why This Orchid Is Rare
Phalaenopsis micholitzii is a true botanical species native to the Philippines, where it grows naturally as an epiphyte in warm, humid lowland forests. It is considered Critically Endangered in the wild due to habitat loss and over-collection.
Collectors value this species for:
- Its elegant ivory flowers with a bright yellow lip.
- Compact growth habit.
- Sequential blooming spikes.
- Importance in breeding many prized novelty hybrids.
- Its rarity and limited availability in cultivation.
Care Guide
Provide bright filtered light with good air movement and warm temperatures year-round. Maintain moderate to high humidity and water thoroughly once the roots become silvery, ensuring excellent drainage.
Feed every 2–3 weeks with a quality orchid fertiliser during active growth. As with many species Phalaenopsis, avoid removing healthy green flower spikes, as they may continue producing flowers over time.
